About Prof Osakue Stevenson Omoera
Prof Osakue Stevenson Omoera is an expert in applied media, film and theatre studies. The foci of his research are on Nollywood studies, with emphasis on indigenous language films; Media sociology, with emphasis on the social impacts of the media; and Cultural dynamics, with emphasis on theatre and African performance studies. Omoera is credited to have pioneered scholarly inquiry into the Benin film in Nollywood studies. As well, he developed the "Active Volcano Paradigm" for the study of English as a language of mass communication, with reference to broadcast media news in Nigeria. He has served as Jury President/Chairman, Edo Movie and Music Academy Awards, Benin City, 2013; Member of Jury, Bayelsa International Film Festival (BIFF), Yenagoa, 20-23 October, 2021. He is widely travelled and extensively published in leading journals and specialist books. He is a recipient of the Association for Cultural Studies (ACS), Finland grant (2018); Shenzhen Forum Grant, Shenzhen University (SZU), China/ National Communication Association (NCA), University of Colorado, Denver (2019); Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA), USA grant (2020), among other awards.
